Qualcomm, Broadcom to settle patent dispute

Tools

While neither Qualcomm nor Broadcom has formally announced a settlement for their dispute over mobile phone chipset patents, the companies told a federal judge that they plan to settle out of court. The move comes less than a week before the case was set to go to trial and shortly after the two companies dropped a suit relating to Bluetooth technology.

Broadcom spokesperson Bill Blanning said the companies had yet to determine a settlement for the 2005 claim by Qualcomm that Broadcom was infringing on the technology used to control power usage in mobile phones. Other patent disputes between the two companies continue.
