Qualcomm loses Motorola to Freescale, TI

Tools

Motorola announced that it plans to remove Qualcomm from its 3G roadmap in favor of Freescale Semiconductor in the short term and Texas Instruments come mid-2008. According to a report from American Technology Research, Motorola has already begun to move resources away from Qualcomm 3G technologies and into 3G efforts from TI. The report claims the shift is not because of technical issues, but rather business ones: Motorola found Qualcomm "hard to do business with." The research firm believes the phrase either refers to Qualcomm being too high-priced or something regarding royalty rates. Likewise, Texas Instruments is moving more toward Motorola and away from Nokia.
