Qualcomm-Nokia lawsuits continue to fly

Qualcomm has filed two more patent lawsuits against Nokia that related to three patents for downloading applications and other digital content over a GPRS/EDGE wireless-data network and patents related to speech encoders used in some GSM handsets. The suits were filed in Texas and Wisconsin, respectively.

Nokia recently launched a preemptive legal strike against Qualcomm two weeks ago in Germany and the Netherlands. On Monday a longtime patent royalties agreement (that sees Nokia paying Qualcomm) is due to expire. Nokia wants Qualcomm to charge it less for using IP relating to WCDMA handsets, since they are the most popular 3G variety, the WSJ report said.
