RadioShack to sell $99 Acer netbook with AT&T service
RadioShack will sell a $99 lightweight Acer netbook with a two-year wireless data contract from AT&T.
The netbook, the Acer Aspire, will be available beginning Dec. 14 for $99.99 for customers who sign a two-year AT&T DataConnect mobile broadband contract. The offer will be available in 4,400 RadioShack stores through Dec. 24. The netbook will have an 8.9-inch LCD screen, an Intel Atom processor, a gigabyte of RAM, a 160GB hard drive.
AT&T has recently been aggressive in its embedded laptop push. The company also is working with Ericsson and Lenovo to offer HSPA-enabled laptops.

As a RS sales associate, if you want one of these, DO YOUR HOMEWORK NOW!!!
1) Log onto www.attwireless.com to look at their data service coverage map... will it work where you want it to???
2) Log onto www.attwireless.com to look at their data plan pricing to see if you want to pay that for two years. Cancellation is $175. (Although $99+175 = 274.. still cheaper than buying the computer outright :)
3) Consider that the battery doesn't last 3 hours
4) Be prepared: Most stores will NOT have these in stock. There is an order process with an AT&T pre-service credit check, a 5 day shipping lead time, and you will need to put down a deposit.
At $99 this will be POPULAR! There isn't an unlimited supply, so order yours early. And PLEEEEASE, don't buy it without doing your homework, and then try to return it.
WOW, from the tone of that note, there seems to be some downside to this deal? I wonder what the return policy is? I could go on, but I've got to go do my HOMEWORK...
Still not a deal, after 2 years of AT&T's limited data plan at $60.00 per month, that laptop will end up costing over $1500.00.
It's still a great deal...even if you bought a notebook for 800 dollars and purchased an after market aircard the wireless service would still be 60 dollars a month so its not like they raised the price on the service to accomodate the discount on the notebook. It's not for everyone but if your looking for wireless internet without useing wi-fi its the best deal in town.
