Report: 326M 3G/LTE devices activated by 2016

The majority of LTE devices activated so far have been single-mode LTE devices, such as USB modems. However, with the advent of LTE smartphones that connect to legacy 3G networks, there will be 326 million dual-mode, or 3G/LTE devices, activated by 2016, according to a new report from research firm Maravedis. The report said that by 2013, more than 50 percent of LTE devices activated worldwide will support both FDD and TDD LTE modes, while fully 75 percent will support legacy air-interface technologies and 9 percent will also support WiMAX.
