Report: Accelerometers on the rise in cell phones

Research firm iSuppli predicts that accelerometers will appear in one-third of mobile phones shipped in 2010, up from one in five in 2009 and one in 11 in 2008. ISuppli principal analyst Jeremie Bouchaud said accelerometers play an essential role in the user interface of smartphones like Apple's iPhone and the Palm Pre because they can detect and measure motion.
