Report: Acer hopes to sell up to 2M handsets in 2010

Tools

Acer, which has less than a year's experience in the smartphone market, is setting impressive goals for itself, according to a DigiTimes report. The company plans to sell between 400,000 and 500,000 handsets this year and between 1.5 million and 2 million in 2010, according to the report, which cited an internal Acer estimate. Acer first jumped into the smartphone market in February touting its Windows Mobile offerings.

The company, which also plans Google Android offerings, is hooking up with multiple carrier partners for its smartphone push, including CSL of Hong Kong, SFR and Bouygues of France. The report notes that Acer is expected to ink an agreement with a North American carrier, which would increase its profile in a market that has grown increasingly crowded.

An Acer spokeswoman did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
