Report: Alcatel-Lucent board to hash out restructuring details next week

Alcatel-Lucent's (NASDAQ: ALU) board will meet next week to discuss the company's recently announced restructuring program and to decide how the struggling vendor will push forward, according to a Reuters report. The report, citing unnamed sources, said the board will meet next week to talk about the company's planned 5,000 job cuts as well as how the company can make more money from its portfolio of 29,000 patents. The vendor, which has struggled to post consistent profits since forming in 2006, is not planning on any significant asset sales in the short term due to the company's slumping share price and the gear market's weak outlook, the report said. The company declined to comment, according to Reuters. Alcatel-Lucent reported a net loss in the second quarter of $312.5 million, compared with a profit of around $53 million in the year-ago period.
