Report: Qualcomm in talks with Indian broadband JV partners

Tools

Qualcomm (NASDAQ:QCOM) is in talks with several Indian companies about forming a possible broadband joint venture in the country, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal. The report, citing unnamed sources, said the chip maker is in talks with Global Group and Tulip Telecom. A Qualcomm spokeswoman did not immediately respond to a request for comment, but a Qualcomm executive told the Journal that the company could not comment on potential partners at this point. Qualcomm paid $1 billion for spectrum in the 2.3 GHz band in India's recently-completed broadband spectrum auction, and plans to use the spectrum to promote TD-LTE. Article (sub. req.)
