Report: RadioShack to begin selling Verizon today

RadioShack will begin selling certain Verizon Wireless handsets in some of its stores beginning today, according to the blog Boy Genius Report.

The report shows screenshots of RadioShack's billing system with prices for handsets such as Research In Motion's BlackBerry Storm, LG's Dare and enV2 and the Samsung Knack. The report said the handsets would not be sold at all RadioShack stores, at least initially.

The rumor first appeared earlier this week on the website phonenews.com. RadioShack and Verizon ended their relationship in the summer of 2005 and RadioShack revamped its wireless retail business. The company has continued to sell phones through AT&T Mobility and Sprint Nextel. The move would make sense in the wake of the liquidation of Circuit City (and the elimination of Verizon jobs at Circuit City stores), and as RadioShack looks to increase its mobile retail market share. RadioShack has recently been revamping its displays to compete directly with Best Buy and has opened three stores in the Dallas area that are focused on selling mobile devices, taking a page from Best Buy's free-standing mobile stores.

When contacted earlier this week, a Verizon spokeswoman declined to comment on the development.

RS's billing system has Verizon handsets in it for kiosk locations. They recently opened 3 Point Mobl wireless concept stores in Texas. Point Mobl carries the big 4: AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and TMobile.

I don't think the contracts with Sprint and AT@T allow for the sales of a third postpay carrier in the RS corporate stores for like another 8 years.

Radioshack has been selling Alltel in many of their midwest locations. Don't forget RS already has three types of wireless kiosk. They do three carriers in the majority of their Sam's Club locations.

AS a Radio Shack Manager I know that not all Corporate stores will be offering Verizon. With the Verizon aquiring Alltel the select stores that had Alltel would still have to cerry a someone so they decided to carry Verizon. Now don't expect to go to and Radio Shack and get Verizon because they all don't cerry it.

Yo u are a manager dude.......I give you one mistake of not spelling "carry" correctly.....but 2 times..........

wow. I am also a radioshack manager (in the los angeles area) and i would LOVE to find out which radioshack manager posted the march 9th comment. haha... I guess you don't need to be literate to be a radioshack manager. You make us look bad mister. sheesh.

Well we know at least one manager can't spell and another fails in the capitalization department. But hey, I'm not one to talk :0).
