Report: Sony Ericsson to drop HTC for WinMo phones

Sony Ericsson will switch its manufacturing partnership for future Windows-Mobile based smartphones from HTC to another Taiwanese company, Mobinnova, according to a Chinese-language Commercial Times report.

Sony Ericsson is still going to be expanding its lineup of Windows Mobile devices, but it will not be doing so with HTC, the paper quoted sources as saying. Instead, once the Xperia X1--Sony Ericsson's only WinMo handset right now--ends its business cycle, the company will switch to Mobinnova as its production partner.

The handset maker launched the X1 in November in the United States unlocked for $800. In September, the company said future Xperia brand phones would not necessarily be tied to any one operating system.
