Report: AT&T will have exclusive on HTC Android device
Economic Daily News, a Chinese-language newspaper, is reporting that handset maker HTC will launch the Hero, an Android-based device, June 24 in London and that AT&T will be selling the device exclusively for six months beginning in the third quarter. EDN says that the Hero will come in two versions, one with a Qwerty keyboard and one without, and that the keyboard model will be named HTC Memphis or HTC Lancaster.
This EDN report seems to validate a May story from Engadget that said AT&T may launch an HTC-made phone, dubbed Lancaster, that has 850/1900 MHz HSPA support, a full Qwerty keyboard, 3-megapixel camera and a "unique HTC social messaging user interface."
HTC has repeatedly said it will unveil at least two more Android phones this year, in addition to the already released Magic.

I can see AT&T (& Verizon) moving aggressively, to deploy Android devices.
The current & upcoming Android-based devices (smartphones, smartbooks, netbooks, MIDs, PMPs, tablets, etc.), offer mobile operators a broad portfolio of mobile computing products that generate revenue from:
1. data contracts.
2. cell phone calls & SMS/MMS.
3. app purchases (operators get a cut from Android Market app sales).
4. value-added apps & services that leverage the capabilities of these "smartphone & smartphone-like" devices.
Android, being open source, also allows the operators to tailor the devices with their own branding & services.
No other smartphone or desktop OS offers the mobile operators the same amount of flexibility & revenue opportunities as Android.
