RIM establishes U.S. headquarters in TX
BlackBerry maker Research In Motion has decided to establish its U.S. headquarters in Irving, Texas, which is a suburb of Dallas. The Ontario-based company plans to employ more than 1,000 people at the new Irving offices within the next couple of years. Exxon-Mobil, Kimberly-Clark and Zale are all also based in Irving, as are a number of large telecommunications and public relations companies. RIM will occupy more than 100,000 square feet in a recently renovated six-building office complex on 13 acres of land.

The NY Times article cites Exxon and Zales having HQ in Irving TX, but the real reason RIM is landing there is because it's Nokia's U.S. HQ and nearby Dallas suburbs have Texas Instruments and major operations by Alcatel-Lucent, Nortel Networks and Ericsson. Easier wireless pickings there than in Waterloo.
