RIM's Chinese prospects might not be so hot

While Research in Motion's deal with China Mobile to bring Blackberry to China sounds like a big deal, many analysts didn't think so. That's because RIM said it is focusing initially on multinational corporations with operations in China. Many speculate the company is constrained to that market because it didn't get approval from the Chinese government for a broader distribution. RIM's encryption software makes it impossible for Chinese authorities to decode emails sent via BlackBerry. As we all know, the Chinese make a habit out of reading email and text messages to make sure there is no "unapproved" communication going on. Reportedly, China's concerns about national security delayed the BlackBerry's introduction in the country by about two years.
