RIM ups new subscriber count for Q4

BlackBerry maker Research In Motion announced that it expects to have added 15 percent to 20 percent more subscribers than it originally predicted for its fourth fiscal quarter, which ends next week. The original estimate pegged new subscribers at 1.82 million for the quarter, but the company claims a strong holiday season and the absence of the usual seasonal drop-off in subscriber acquisitions led to a better than expected turnout. RIM counts any user of its BlackBerry email service as a subscriber--not just those users who buy BlackBerry handheld devices.
