Rumor Mill: BlackBerry Storm 2 pictures spotted?

Tools

Less than two weeks after Research In Motion revealed it will make a second version of its BlackBerry Storm smartphone, pictures of the device have reportedly popped up on the all-things-BlackBerry blog CrackBerry.

The main difference between the two Storm models--at least, according to the handful of pictures--appears to be that RIM has taken away the bottom four buttons on the phone and made them part of the touch-sensitive user interface. RIM co-CEO Jim Balsillie earlier this month revealed during the company's Capital Markets Day that RIM is working on a new Storm model. One of RIM's goals, he said, is to try and break further into the consumer market for smartphones.

Verizon Wireless launched the original Storm to much fanfare last fall, and said at the end of January that it had sold more than 1 million Storm units since the device launched Nov. 21.

Verizon could have sold a couple million more if they weren't keeping the device crippled with beta firmware released in a rush back in December. There have been dozens of later firmwares seen on the internet but after being in such a hurry to rush MR1 cide out the door Verizon seems to have lost interest. The Storm is a totally different phone using newer firmware than Verizon provides, a FAR better device in all aspects.
