Samsung: Major carrier to roll out WiMax by 2006

Samsung expects at least one major US mobile carrier to deploy WiMax technology next year. Insiders see Verizon Wireless or Sprint Nextel as the most likely candidates since Samsung has had long-standing technology relationships with both. Samsung has two WiMax mobile service deployments in South Korea already and has agreements to begin field trials with carriers worldwide. By April of next year, South Korea plans to have the first commercial mobile WiMax service using a form of the technology called WiBro.
