Samsung and TVA Sistema de Televisao have teamed up to bring next-generation wireless broadband service based on WiBro to Brazil by the second quarter of 2006. Samsung claims WiBro can support data transmission speeds of 3 Mbps for devices traveling around 120 kph. The technology aims to be compatible with the 802.16e mobile WiMax system a year after deployment.

Samsung has been developing the technology with KT and the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute since 2003. Samsung also has plans to supply WiBro equipment to other overseas mobile operators, including Japan's KDDI and British Telecom, by the end of the year. Samsung and Sprint Nextel announced last month that they plan to test WiBro in the US.
