As we reported yesterday, the fate of the Google-EarthLink project to grant free muni-WiFi to the city of San Francisco lies in the power of a City Hall vote, but Mayor Gavin Newsom warned such a deal "is too important" to be knocked off by naysayers who want to win political points. "I wouldn't want to reject this," Newsom added. Other options for a muni-WiFi network are not feasible, Newsom says: "I'm not going to take $10 million from poor people to pay for something that a private company has offered to pay for."
