Sony Ericsson named Anderson Teixeira as the new president of Sony Ericsson U.S. and the head of its North America operations, a little more than two weeks after Najmi Jarwala resigned from the positions. 

Teixeira will take over the position June 1. Anders Runevad, executive vice president of Sony Ericsson and head of global sales and marketing, has been filling in during the interim. Teixeira has been with Sony Ericsson since the 2001 joint venture between Japan's Sony and Sweden's Ericsson.

A native of Brazil, Teixeira led the company's operations in Latin America and currently serves as the head of Sony Ericsson's Western Europe region. Kristian Tear will succeed him in that post.

The joint venture has been on shaky ground recently. The company issued a profit warning in late March, and said it expects its first quarter net sales and net income before taxes to be hit by weakening demand. Sony Ericsson is predicting a first-quarter loss of $464.9 million to $533.2 million.

Interestingly, Ericsson recently denied reports that it was considering splitting from the joint venture. The infrastructure giant posted a $246 million loss for the fourth quarter, down from a profit of $495 million in the year-ago period.
