Spotify wades into crowded mobile video market
Spotify will begin rolling out its mobile video service to this week, jumping into an increasingly crowded market. The new offering will be available for Android users this week and for owners of iOS devices next week. Content will initially consist primarily of short TV clips, according to The Wall Street Journal, although some providers are creating original content for the service.
Spotify has gained solid traction with its streaming music offering, but it joins a mobile video space that gets more crowded by the day. Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile are all pursuing mobile video through various services and business models, and cable companies are expanding their offerings to reach on-the-go users. Spotify will face challenges in differentiating its service from some heavyweight competitors. Report
