Sprint adds two WiMAX routers to its arsenal

Sprint is adding to its 4G device portfolio with the addition of two 4G broadband routers. The routers allow customers to connect multiple WiFi-enabled devices to Sprint's network, regardless of whether they are in a Sprint 1xEV-DO market or an area where Sprint offers mobile WiMAX service via Clearwire's network. Sprint currently offers 4G mobile WiMAX in Baltimore, Portland, Atlanta and Las Vegas. It plans to launch several more markets by year-end.

The Sprint Personal Hotspot PS300S supports up to four simultaneous WiFi connections, costs $159.99 and is available in select Sprint retails stores within the company's WiMAX markets. The Cradlepoint MBR-1000 Broadband Router supports up to 32 simultaneous WiFi connections and is $249.99. It is available via business sales, telesales and online.

Both devices are available with data plans ranging in price from $39.99 to $79.99 per month. Used in conjunction with devices that have Sprint's 3G/4G USB modem U300, these routers can simultaneously connect WiFi-enabled smartphones, laptops, MP3 players, cameras and other devices to the Sprint 1xEV-DO or mobile WiMAX network.

As Sprint grows its 4G footprint, the company will continue to seed the market with devices that take advantage of the mobile WiMAX network and allow customers to seamlessly shift from 3G to 4G. The company already introduced the Novatel MiFi 2200 mobile hotspot that allows customers to connect several WiFi-enabled devices to its 3G network.
