Sprint confirms there are potential iDEN bidders
Sprint Nextel CEO Dan Hesse confirmed that there has been significant interest from companies wishing to bid on the Nextel iDEN business but said that the current economic climate may make it tough for a bidder to raise capital. He added that selling that asset wasn't the only option for Sprint.
Alltel's previous owners TPG Capital and GS Capital Partners have been named as possible bidders, however it's likely the venture capital firms would have to wait until their proposed sale of Alltel to Verizon Wireless is complete, which is expected to occur by year-end.

God, yes, please sell it. Two-way radio is so 1995, and that little niche market is not worth all the trouble that merger has caused.
To the poster below, "that little niche market", made a lot more money per subscriber than Sprint CDMA consumer business ever did and a lot more loyal customer, when they were paid attention to... Sprint leadership ignoring the product and continuing to put all of their effort towards the consumer and retail business is what brought upon the current challenge.
Amen there! That is the very ignorant perception that poor Sprint leadership had when they ignored iDEN. Now they are trying to regain that postion with a lot of iDEN focus.VZW is on their heels with push to talk as well, which absolutely stinks in comparison with iDEN. Let's not forget the applications (GPS etc) that run on iDEN only. As a market analyst, I would have to say splitting the two would be a good thing.
I was worried that my iDEN service would wend in 2010. Looks like the network may lie on longer! I depend on iDEN's GPS aapplications for a number of things (securty related).
Anyone know if Sprint will be selling the Boost Mobile unit as well?
