Sprint launching Instinct HD for $250

Tools

Sprint Nextel is launching the latest successor to its Instinct phone, the Instinct HD, promising users the ability to record HD video and connect to an HD device via a TV-out jack.

The phone has an HD, 5-megapixel camera and camcorder and allows photo and video playback on an HD-capable auxiliary device. There is no functionality, however, for HD playback directly on the device. The Instinct HD also has the Opera Mobile 9.7 browser, WiFi, an ambient light sensor and an accelerometer.

The Instinct HD is the second follow-up to the original Instinct, which was released last summer in a bid to compete with Apple's iPhone 3G. Sprint also offers the Instinct s30, a slimmed-down version of the original. The Instinct HD is the latest high-end phone that Sprint plans to launch, and joins the Android-based HTC Hero, the HTC Touch Pro 2 and Research In Motion's BlackBerry Tour.

Sprint said the Instinct HD will be available beginning Sept. 27 at Best Buy Mobile locations and more widely available Oct. 11. The phone will be sold for $249.99 with a two year-contract and after a $100 mail-in rebate.
