Sprint's Xohm has been delayed

Various reports coming out of the CTIA Wireless show in Las Vegas point to a delayed launch for Sprint's Xohm WiMAX network, which now looks like it might launch in the summer.

"Our commercial launch will not be in April," Sprint spokesman James Fisher told The Street. "We're in the soft launch in Baltimore, Washington, D.C. and Chicago. We are making good progress on the soft launch." Fisher said the launch will be later this year.

Sprint CTO Barry West told attendees at FierceWireless' Path to 4G event at CTIA Wireless that he was upset that the service wasn't live today. He said he would not give specific guidance on a launch time frame, however.

"The change in rollout is not related to the technology," Fisher said. "It's related to making sure all of the various logistical elements of the rollout are ready."
