Study: Amazon tablet could capture consumers' attention in crowded market

Tools

A tablet from Amazon.com could potentially do well in the crowded tablet market, according to a survey by online research firm Retrevo, which found that 55 percent of respondents in a recent survey said they would seriously consider buying a tablet from the online retailer. Support for an Amazon tablet was higher than support for other, more established consumer electronics players, including Hewlett-Packard, Motorola Mobility (NYSE:MMI), Research In Motion (NASDAQ:RIMM) and Samsung. Reports have indicated that Amazon will release a a tablet running Google's (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android platform in the third quarter. The survey also found that 48 percent of respondents said that $300 was the price point that would get them to consider an Android tablet over Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPad. Retrevo said the results came from a survey of online individuals conducted exclusively for Retrevo in June, by an independent panel. The sample size was over 1,000 distributed across gender, age, income and location in the United States. Article
