Study: U.S. LTE subscribers use about 1.6 GB of data per month

A new study from mobile analytics firm Mobidia found that U.S. subscribers, along with those in Japan and South Korea, are among the heaviest users of mobile data. On average, Japan's LTE subscribers consume about 3 GB per month of data, while U.S. LTE subscribers consume about 1.6 GB a month.

In addition, Wi-Fi continues to be an important tool for mobile connectivity. Mobidia found that Wi-Fi usage represented 75 percent to 90 percent of all mobile data consumed in all major markets it surveyed. In the U.S., average Wi-Fi usage was about 6.3 GB a month.

Not surprisingly, Mobidia found that LTE subscribers use dramatically more data than 3G subscribers. In fact, in Hong Kong LTE subscribers used an average of 100 percent more data than 3G customers in the first four months of the year.

Mobidia's report included data from the first four months of 2014 and encompassed more than 100 mobile operators that have deployed LTE. Release
