T-Mobile USA wants to attract current Apple iPhone users by letting them trade in their devices for credit toward the company's new premier device, the HTC HD2.
The blogosphere has been buzzing about the promotion, which T-Mobile confirmed to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. The promotion, which runs through May 19, allows users to bring in their current, working iPhone to get between $100 and $350 in credit toward the purchase of an HD2. However, the offer is available only through participating dealers, 1-800-TMOBILE and business direct sales representatives. Activation of the device is not required, and customers can choose to purchase the HD2 at its full, unsubsidized price.
T-Mobile started selling the HD2 last month. The phone runs Windows Mobile 6.5, has a 4.3-inch screen and offers HTC's Sense UI. T-Mobile is selling the device for $200 with its contract plan and for $450 with its prepaid plan. The promotion, aimed squarely at Apple, is notable because reports have indicated recently that T-Mobile might be interested in eventually carrying the iPhone.
