T-Mobile enticing iPhone users with credit toward HD2

T-Mobile USA wants to attract current Apple iPhone users by letting them trade in their devices for credit toward the company's new premier device, the HTC HD2.

HTC’s HD2 for T-Mobile USAThe blogosphere has been buzzing about the promotion, which T-Mobile confirmed to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. The promotion, which runs through May 19, allows users to bring in their current, working iPhone to get between $100 and $350 in credit toward the purchase of an HD2. However, the offer is available only through participating dealers, 1-800-TMOBILE and business direct sales representatives.  Activation of the device is not required, and customers can choose to purchase the HD2 at its full, unsubsidized price.

T-Mobile started selling the HD2 last month. The phone runs Windows Mobile 6.5, has a 4.3-inch screen and offers HTC's Sense UI. T-Mobile is selling the device for $200 with its contract plan and for $450 with its prepaid plan. The promotion, aimed squarely at Apple, is notable because reports have indicated recently that T-Mobile might be interested in eventually carrying the iPhone.
