T-Mobile launching Samsung Android phone

T-Mobile USA keeps launching more Android phones.

Weeks after it partnered with Motorola for the handset maker's first Android phone, the Cliq, T-Mobile plans to launch its fourth phone based on Google's Android platform, the Samsung Behold II. The phone marks Samsung's entrance into the Android arena in the North America market; the company previously announced its i7500 (a.k.a Galaxy) phone for Europe.

The Behold II combines both the Android and Samsung's proprietary TouchWiz user interfaces. The phone has three different home screens to drag and drop widgets onto, and also features a cube menu to get access to music, photos, videos, the Web, YouTube and Amazon's MP3 music download service. The phone will have a 3.2-inch AMOLED touchscreen, WiFi, a 5-megapixel camera, Bluetooth 2.1 and support for both personal email and corporate email with Exchange ActiveSync.

Earlier this year, T-Mobile said it would launch Android phones with two new handset partners, aside from G1 maker HTC, and it appears to have fulfilled that promise. In doing so, it has solidified its position as the most Android-friendly U.S. carrier. However, Sprint Nextel announced its first Android phone, the HTC Hero, and Verizon Wireless is rumored to have plans for an Android device this year as well.

T-Mobile did not release any specific pricing or availability information for the Behold II, but said the phone is scheduled to launch "before the start of the holidays."
