T-Mobile offers discounts on iPhones in Cyber Monday deal

T-Mobile US (NYSE:TMUS) is offering discounts on Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) iPhones as part of a Cyber Monday promotion, essentially giving customers money off more expensive iPhones with larger amounts of memory.

If customers buy an iPhone 6 with 16 GB of memory, the carrier will upgrade them to the 64 GB model, saving them $100 (the iPhone 6 with 64 GB of memory is normally $750 on an unsubsidized basis at T-Mobile).

Additionally, if customers buy the iPhone 5s with 32 GB of memory, customers will be upgraded to the 64 GB model (a savings of $48), and customers who buy the iPhone 5c with 8 GB of memory will get upgraded to the 32 GB version (a savings of $50). The iPhone offers are available only online, inventory is limited, and the deals end at midnight Pacific Time today.

The offers are most likely an attempt to not only sell inventory of older iPhones but also to get as many smartphone upgrades as possible during the busy holiday shopping season.

T-Mobile highlighted that it is the only U.S. carrier to support Wi-Fi calling on the iPhone 6. The company also said it is going to waive the $25 deposit fee for its Personal Cellspot for all Simple Choice postpaid customers through the end of the year. The Cellspot is a Wi-Fi router that customers can place in their homes to enhance their in-home coverage.

As CNET notes, T-Mobile is not the only mobile company to jump on the Cyber Monday deal bandwagon after Black Friday. CNET has a rundown of deals from Best Buy, Walmart and individual device makers. For example, Motorola Mobility is offering the unlocked, second-generation Moto X with a $140 discount, and if customers buy the phone with a two-year contract from Verizon (NYSE: VZ) they can get it for a penny.
