T-Mobile's Oprah promotion lowers myTouch 3G to $100

T-Mobile USA is offering to knock off $100 of the cost of the myTouch 3G, the carrier's second phone based on Google's Android platform, as part of a promotion celebrating Oprah Winfrey's 24th year on the air.

New customers who want to get their hands on the device can type in a special code--"KICKOFF24"--when they buy the phone online, and T-Mobile will slash the price of the phone by $100, bringing the final cost of the HTC-made device down to $99.99 with a two-year contract. The promotion will be valid through Sept. 24. A T-Mobile spokeswoman did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the promotion.

The carrier launched the phone Aug. 5.

Interestingly, T-Mobile's promotion comes days after Sprint Nextel posted--and then hours later pulled--a promotion that would have reduced the cost of of the Palm Pre by $100, bringing the final price to around $100.

T-Mobile has been moving quickly on the Android front. Just yesterday the carrier announced that it will launch Motorola's first Android phone, the Cliq, in time for the holiday shopping season. The device brings the total number of Android phones at the carrier to three; T-Mobile also carries the G1.
