T-Mobile USA releases G1 software update
Now that the hype has subsided, T-Mobile USA's G1 is, in some sense, just another smartphone on the market. And like all smartphones, it has software updates.
The website TmoNews is reporting that T-Mobile plans to push a software update for G1 users. The OTA update will allow users to have full access to songs from Amazon.com and provide other unspecified "enhancements." A T-Mobile spokeswoman could not be reached for comment. Analysts are also wondering how the phone will catch on in the marketplace, with eyes on comparisons to the explosive growth of Apple's iPhone 3G.
The New York Times quotes Carolina Milanesi, a research director for the Garner Group, as saying, "The iPhone is still a point of reference," but notes that T-Mobile has said that about half of customers who pre-ordered G1s upgraded from basic handsets.

I bought my G1 thinking that it will be a good phone, well guess what, IT SUCKS. The battery might as well not be in the phone. it takes an hur convo to die. I hate it
Customer service told me I can go to the store to geta battery, the store says they have nothing available for the G1 at least for another 3 weeks or so, they tell me I have to purchase the Internet in order to get updates, lol That wa a lie. what a good way to make money, I wish I owned Tmobile. Liersssss
I should add, first when I found out about the messed up battery I called Tmobile, they gave me a runaround for about an hour and kept sending me to a different department, They still didn't fix this issue ( I spoke to 12 People ever since the first phone call 2 days after I got my New G1)
i HAVE THE SAME BATTERY ISSUE AND TMOBILE IS NOT DOING A THING ABOUT IT. THE GOOD THING i COULD STILL RETURN THE PHONE WITHIN THE NEXT 13 DAYS....
It sux that you guys are having that problem. Don't blame the platform for that, however. I have 3 G1s on my account, and I know of 3 others (friends, family) and none of us have had a problem. Yes, the phone can kill the battery in about 5-6 hours of constant use, but trust me - your issues are singular. I am confident that once you receive new batteries you will enjoy your G1 as much as we do. Truly there is no phone like it on the market today.
hey is the G1 really worth the money?? ive been doing some research on the g1 and it can go both ways.... either ppl hate or ppl love it... i am currently using an iphone 3g and i have serious problems with it... like the app keep crashing and everytime i am using safari and listening to music at the same time it kicks me out and it stops the music.... which really sucks since i really depend on both.... and the thing that i hate the most it the network issue... I HATE THE SERVIE!!! att really sucks or its the phone.... im literally on the phone for about 5 minutes and it already drops the call!! it always says call failed!! so what good does this phone do me if i can even have a conversation... so thats why ive been looking for different phones and i like tmobile ive always had good service with them.... but i also would like to know what else can the phone do?? if you can plz inform me on that.... but also if you guys have any idea when the white one will be out for release... thats the one im wanting to get... thank you again
I admit that I was unhappy with the G1 battery life at first. I had to charge it twice a day for the first week I had it, but that was because I was playing with it constantly. I was surfing the web, talking on the phone, sending instant messages, using the GPS, listening to streaming internet radio, watching movies and downloading practically every app released in the appp store. This type of use can drain a battery quickly. Also, I was so excited abou my new phone that I forgot to do one of the most important things: condition the battery. If you do not condition your battery, you will not get the full potential out of it. You will need to let it drain out completely to the point where it shuts itself off. Then, you will need to charge it completely and leave it on the charger for at least an extra hour after the charge indicator light turns green. Do this 2-3 times and I guarentee you will see much improved battery life. My average phone use is still what I listed above but now my battery lasts at least a full day without needing to be charged. Also, if you are not using bluetooth, GPS or WiFi then turn them off to save your battery. Additionally, the brightness of the screen can be turned down to save the battery. If time goes by and the battery life is not what it used to be, try conditioning the battery again. Hope this helps.
You know it doesn't matter what carrier you are with - All of them have phones that do not live up to their names. I am not going to front I have Sprint cellular service. They are taking all kinds of blows. But, I see that the complaints are just as bad with the other carriers. I will wait for Xohm or Wimax so I can get rid of my landline and just have my cell phone. I am tired of emptying my wallet for monopolistic Verizon. You will feel the pain soon. Just wait - It is coming...I hear the IPhone is supposed to be so great but why all the dissatisfied customers? G1 -What is your problem? What is the rush to switch carriers? Hold on people and let Wimax flourish and then you can move about the country. A new form of internet is coming. All they are asking for is a little support. Don't you want to be able to drive in your car at speeds of fifty miles an hour and surf your laptop at the same time? I guess a new phone is what it takes to defect from a carrier and other reasons too. I don't want to get my head chewed off. Well time will tell...
plz help!can the g-1 play internet radio?much thx:)
Look ok I love the phone but I hate how I can not listen to and watch some things on the net I don't know if there is a flash player that can be downloaded to the phone but I can tell you it really needs it can somone give me some info on that.

I don't have a battery problem with the G1. I don't own one. I can't decent T-Mobile signal, even in the NYC metro suburbs!
I have a G1, it works great... battery last for over 12 hr's, no problems.... tip to everyone...
when you buy your G1, let the battery die. then charge for two hours (max). let die completly and follow same process... battery should only be charged for two hour's... then battery works great........ amano57@gmail
