Telus plans to merge wireless, wireline divisions

Tools

With one eye on convergence, Telus unveiled plans to merge its wireless and wireline divisions. The move is mostly an answer to increased competition from cable companies' VoIP offerings and increased subscriber churn. The announcement comes just a month after Telus Mobility president George Cope announced his resignation from the wireless unit. The company claims Cope's departure presented an ideal opportunity to carry out the merger. Various executives will share the duties of the wireless division, the company's fastest growing business. With the move, Telus aims to focus on customer groups instead of distinct products, tap into cost savings and increase customer loyalty.
