Thomas Wheeler named to Obama transition team
Thomas Wheeler, the former head of CTIA and still a player in the wireless industry, was named to the Obama-Biden transition team to head up efforts in the science, technology, space and arts agencies, which probably includes the FCC.
Wheeler, who was a large fundraiser for President-elect Barack Obama during the Democratic primaries, was the head of CTIA for 12 years and knows the ins-and-outs of dealing with federal regulators. He currently is the managing director of Core Capital, a wireless investment firm. Also joining the transition team is Reed Hundt, who oversaw the first spectrum auctions during the Clinton administration. Hundt will be working on the transition team's focus on international trade and economic agencies.
Last week, one of the co-chairs of the transition team, John Podesta, made it clear that Obama planned on making his own mark on the FCC.

I have been watching Tom and Carol on C-SPAN today and was very impressed by them. I was particularly interested in Carol's remark about being particularly interested in education.
I am 80 years young and after spending 45 years in the computer field, I retired 15 years ago and have spent those retirement years doing volunteer work in the community. In particular, I've spent the past 12 years as a volunteer tutor in 6th grade math. That experience, which involved one-on-one interaction with students who needed help has let me to develop some advanced ideas as to how computers should be used in schools.
Imagine schools without paper textbooks, all the lessons are presented on the computer in dynamic, exciting ways and where homework and exams are performed on the computer, which provides th eability for the student to make instant corrections when errors are made and keeps statistics as to how many times the the student had to try to get to the correct answer.
Today's paper textbook system requires one book per student, per subject and per grade. The all- comuter system would require one computer per student which could be used throughout his or her educational experience.
There's more to the concept, but this may give you the idea of what I firmly believe will be the education system of the future. Now is the time for the Obama administration begin the process of developing such a system so that this country can stay competitive in the future.
If there is any interest on your part, I would like very much to discuss it with you further.
