U.S. Cellular, T-Mobile USA subsidies among winners of $300M Mobility Fund auction

The FCC today announced the winners of the initial phase of its Mobility Fund auction. The auction, which had 54 qualified bidders, is part of a program to expand mobile broadband coverage to rural and unserved areas of the country. Winning bids were made by 33 companies. Those companies will eventually be able to take advantage of a total of $300 million in funds set aside to provide 3G or better mobile broadband services. Some of the winning wireless companies include NE Colorado Cellular, GCI Communications Corp., U.S. Cellular, T-Mobile USA subsidiaries, Sagebrush Cellular, Allied Wireless Communications, Carolina West Wireless and more.
