Verizon launches $300 HTC Touch Diamond

Tools

Verizon Wireless launched the HTC Touch Diamond, coming a little late the party since the phone's successor has already been announced by HTC. Sprint Nextel first launched the Touch Diamond last fall.

The EV-DO smartphone runs Windows Mobile 6.1 and has a 2.76-inch touchscreen, 3.2-megapixel camera, 3D TouchFlo user interface and microSD slot capable of holding up to 16GB. The phone also features Verizon's visual voicemail and the carrier's VZ Navigator service.

Such features may have seemed impressive back in September 2008, but HTC Touch Diamond 2--announced in February as the successor to HTC's Touch Diamond--includes a range of enhancements including a 5-megapixel auto focus camera and "gravity sensor and an ambient light sensor," according to HTC.

Nonetheless, Verizon Wireless is moving ahead with the Touch Diamond, offering it starting tomorrow for $299.99 with a two-year contract and after a $70 mail-in rebate.
