Verizon tries to dismiss visual voicemail lawsuit

Tools

Just weeks after launching its visual voicemail service, Verizon Wireless already is fending off a patent infringement lawsuit. The company asked the U.S. District Court in the Eastern District of New York to dismiss a lawsuit filed by inventor Judah Klausner of Klausner Technologies. Klausner claims the carrier's visual voicemail service infringes on his company's patent. He also is suing LG, claiming the handset maker's LG Voyager, which offers the visual voicemail service, for the same violation.

Klausner has been successful in other patent actions. In June, the company settled a similar dispute with Apple, AT&T and eBay for an undisclosed amount.
