Verizon Wireless buys SureWest Wireless assets

Verizon Wireless has agreed to acquire SureWest Communications' wireless assets in northern California, which has been operating as SureWest Wireless, for $69 million. The deal includes SureWest Wireless' spectrum licenses, and network and operations assets in the greater Sacramento area. The licenses cover 3.8 million people but overlap with areas that Verizon Wireless already serves so the acquisition will strengthen Verizon Wireless' capacity in the area. SureWest Wireless served 50,000 subscribers in the area.
