Verizon Wireless cuts some former Circuit City employees

Verizon Wireless laid off some of its employees who worked at in-store locations at Circuit City stores. Circuit City is closing its stores nationwide and is currently in liquidation.
Verizon Wireless cut 45 percent of the employees, the number of which is estimated to be in the low hundreds, according to Verizon Wireless spokesperson Harold Waterman. FierceTelecom received an email from Waterman Tuesday responding to an inquiry and he said the company would provide severance and outplacement services to "those we cannot unfortunately retain."
Waterman said the layoffs are only related to Circuit City store closings, and that rumors of layoffs of senior sales staff in the Gulf Coast area are "absolutely not true."
Rumors of layoffs in Verizon's wireline division have also been circulating. Verizon Wireless reported much stronger fourth quarter results than the landline divisions did, with 1.4 million net subscriber additions in the quarter.

Layoffs for Verizon Wireless are much more than just a rumor I'm afraid. In the past few days one particular district in Philadelphia region has managed to lay-off and/or fire several dozen representatives.

the number they are letting go is rummored to be 2500 and they did cut alot of the low performing sales reps, and random manager who where making alot of money

Yes verizon has laid off employees and the rumor of laying off old sales reps and staff is very true I have been laid off and know many people who have been laid off who have been with the company over 9 years. They don't care about their employess they steal their souls and reps who were preforming horribly at the circuit cities have been moved into stores and given a second chance will other reps who were with the company for years were let go.

I work for verizon wireless and from what I know they laid off ;ow performing reps.

It wasn't just low performing reps. I got laid off too. I was a 2007 winners circle winner and was partly responsible for showing growth in my location. No PIP's either. Go figure that one out. Guess I made too much money
