Verizon Wireless' open access conference

Tools

Verizon Wireless' newly appointed VP of the open development initiative Anthony Lewis announced that the carrier's Open Development conference will take place in New York City on March 19-20. The conference is intended for developers in the device community to come together and learn about the technical standards needed for devices to run on Verizon Wireless' network.

The carrier's release about the upcoming conference also notes that while Verizon Wireless "is listening to a segment of customers who want another choice without full service," the carrier is still focused on its full-service offerings, including retail stores, 24/7 customer service and support and carrier-branded applications.

Big Deal, Sprint and Nextel have been doing this for years. Verizon is still a day late and a dollar short on becoming an applications leader. They should spend less money on adverstising saying they're good at it and more money actually being good at it.
