Verizon Wireless raises SMS rate to 20 cents

Tools

Verizon Wireless has joined Sprint by raising the price of sending and receiving text messages to 20 cents apiece, up from 15 cents each. The move is an effort to drive more subscribers over to messaging bundles, which include a $10-a-month 500 text and picture messaging bundle plus unlimited in-network messaging. Sprint's rate hike took effect about three months ago. The major U.S. carriers each raised their text message rates from 10 cents to 15 cents per message last year.
