Virgin Mobile expands Broadband2Go retail outlets

Tools

Virgin Mobile USA said it was expanding the number and type of retail locations that offer its prepaid mobile broadband service, called Broadband2Go. The service uses Sprint Nextel's EVDO Rev. A network. Virgin, which is in the process of being acquired by Sprint Nextel, said that as of Dec. 1, Broadband2Go will be available at Best Buy Mobile, RadioShack stores, Sam's Club kiosks via RadioShack, Walmart.com and Target.com.

The MVNO also is reducing the price of the USB modem by $50, down to $99.99. When Virgin Mobile first debuted the service in June the Novatel MC760 USB device cost $149.99.

Virgin's Broadband2Go price plans have remained the same and break down as follows:

--$10 for 100 MB of data usage
--$20 for 250 MB
--$40 for 600 MB
--$60 for 1 GB

Since Virgin Mobile announced the plan, Verizon Wireless has followed it into the prepaid mobile broadband market. Earlier this month, Verizon unveiled its own plans, and is offering a daily plan for $15 with a cap at 75 MB of usage, a weekly plan for $30 with a cap at 250 MB and a monthly plan at $50 with a 500 MB cap. Leap Wireless also provides prepaid mobile broadband services.
