Virgin Mobile to launch MVNO in France

Tools

Virgin Mobile and Carphone Warehouse are in talks to launch an MVNO in France in the first half of 2006. Virgin and Carphone will jointly create and own the mobile service offering that will rent access on France Telecom's Orange network and will offer mobile calling under the Virgin Mobile France brand. The mobile market in France is currently dominated by three operators: Orange, SFR and Bouygues Telecom. The French government has been pushing for the creation of MVNOs as a means of spurring mobile competition and lowering calling prices. Virgin and Carphone have not yet disclosed details and prices of the offering.
