Will FM radios be required in mobile phones?

There's a fight brewing among several industry trade groups over whether all mobile phones should be mandated to have FM radio chips. The Consumer Electronics Association is fighting a proposal from the Recording Industry Association of America and the National Association of Broadcasters to get FM chips into all mobile phones. The whole dispute is the latest chapter in a long-running battle between radio broadcasters and the recording industry over music royalties. Both the CEA and the CTIA have come out against the proposal, arguing that handset designers and consumers should decide whether they want FM radios in their phones, and that it is not a huge draw anyway.
