Wirefly: 70 percent increase in smartphones

Tools

InPhonic's online mobile phone store, Wirefly, reported a 70 percent increase in smartphone sales between Q3 2006 and Q1 2007. The most popular smartphones sold through Wirefly are Samsung's Blackjack, Motorola's Q and Research in Motion's BlackBerry Pearl and BlackBerry 8700 series, in that order. The online store credits national advertising campaigns with increasing the public's awareness of smartphones and their features, but drastically lower pricing (less than $100 in some cases) on feature-rich phones has also led to their uptake, Wirefly claims.
