ZTE builds U.S. relationships, plans Android phone

Chinese equipment and handset vendor ZTE is gaining more ground in the U.S. market. The company already has established relationships with Sprint Nextel and MetroPCS, and this week Verizon Wireless launched a new global roaming USB modem from ZTE. The company also is developing a phone based on Google's Android platform for Asian markets, and may bring the gadget and other high-end devices to the U.S. market if carriers express interest.
