Zynga's Draw Something 2 is struggling to match the success of its blockbuster predecessor, according to new data from BTIG Research.
Multi-platform gaming company King announced it is now seeing 70 million daily players across all platforms including mobile, bypassing mobile gaming giant Zynga's 52 million DAUs. In addition, the company is expanding its third title to mobile. Pet Rescue Saga , which is already available via Facebook, will launch on Apple's iOS (iPhone, iPad and iPod touch) and Google's Android this summer.
Companies from across the mobile app landscape continue to discuss the possibility of mobile "real-money gambling" in the United States as if it could instantly reverse revenue declines and immediately stimulate the hotly contested application industry. A year after Zynga acquired online and mobile gaming firm OMGPOP, its former CEO Dan Porter has decided to leave the company. Porter, who became Zynga's New York GM as part of Zynga's $180 million acquisition of OMGPOP, will be replaced by VP of mobile games Sean Kelly.
Zynga is readying a sequel to Draw Something , the mobile social game it acquired along with creator OMGPOP for about $180 million in March 2012.
Zynga said it now counts 72 million mobile users out of a total of 298 million monthly average users. The company also said it plans to bring its new FarmVille 2 game to the mobile realm this year.
Struggling social games maker Zynga is sunsetting 11 titles, including mobile efforts like Mafia Wars Shakedown , Forestville , Mojitomo and Word Scramble Challenge .
