HTC launches Windows Mobile powered Diamond

HTC has unveiled its latest Windows Mobile-powered touch screen device, the Diamond. The handset runs the newest version of Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional and is powered by a Qualcomm 528MHz processor. While no pricing information is available yet, HTC announced that the handset will be available in Europe in June and elsewhere in the second half of 2008.

The phone sports an innovative, new TouchFLO 3D UI and is both WCDMA/HSPA-enabled as well as WiFi-enabled. Other features include GPS, Bluetooth, a 2.8-inch VGA touch screen, 4GB of internal storage and a 3.2MP camera.

3G iPhone rumor round-up

The past week has brought a flurry of 3G iPhone rumors and reports that cover launch dates, applications, functionalities and improved form factor. Here's a run-down of the rumors that floated to the top:

Apple plans to offer an 8GB and a 16GB version of the 3G iPhone and will maintain the same pricing options. The phone will launch at the Worldwide Developers' Conference in early June, which just so happens to nearly coincide the iPhone's launch date last year.
The iPhone will be 2.5 millmeters thinner than the previous version of the handset and have a less "plasticky" exterior. OS and UI are set to stay the same.
Hackers have uncovered more proof that Infineon and InterDigital will make up the heart of the 3G iPhone.
Nike+, the feature-rich pedometer from the sneaker company will also be available for 3G iPhone users.
Code sleuths also saw support for GPS and Bluetooth stereo headphones in the upcoming 3G iPhone.
The 3G iPhone will come pre-loaded with more software to battle unlocking programs.

Hands-on with Sony Ericsson's Xperia

Just about the most hyped handset to come out of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona earlier this year, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1, a white labeled HTC phone, comes equipped with a hiptop-style slideout keypad that has a gliding motion to it. The device runs Windows Mobile 6.1 but manages to cover up the OS with a number of user-selectable custom skins--including one for Google users and one for world travelers. The UI runs on a 800 x 400 resolution touchscreen that was running slowly during our demo at CTIA, but Sony Ericsson has yet to announce a release date for the handset outside of "late 2008."
