OTT messaging adoption may marginalize Europe's operators

Over-the-top mobile messaging applications like WhatsApp, TextPlus and others have been stealing thunder from established European wireless operators for a while, with a rapidly increasing number of smartphone users jumping into the pool. Now they are set to steal much more from the bottom lines of these operators. Research firm Ovum has said the estabished carriers could lose more than $50 billion in revenue to the OTT apps by 2016.
