WBA adds 14 new member companies
The Wireless Broadband Alliance has announced that it has added 14 new member companies in recent months to take its total membership up to 95, roughly double what it was a year ago.
Since it last updated its membership count in June, the group has welcomed Alvarion, AlwaysOn, BandwidthX, Belgacom International Carrier Services, Crown Castle, Front Porch, Huawei Technologies, Hutchison Global Communications, NTT Broadband Platform, Netgem, Quadriga Worldwide, Sysnet Integrators and Towerstream.
The WBA's profile has been growing lately, amid its Next Generation Hotspots (NGH) initiative and news of its joint effort with the Small Cell Forum to integrate Wi-Fi hotspots and small cells. The WBA's NGH trials will also be moving into their advanced phase with Wi-Fi Alliance-Certified products before the end of the year.
With Wi-Fi taking center stage in the mobile broadband evolution lately--even in carrier networks--the WBA's membership likely will continue to grow. One of the important issues as that growth continues will be the WBA's ongoing ability to continue to work effectively with the other wireless associations it has partnered with.
